Art Camps

Creative art camps offered at Viva Vida Art Gallery provide an opportunity to develop technique and explore creativity while enjoying the leisurely pace of the season.

 

Campers explore a variety of mediums, including painting (acrylic and watercolour), clay sculpture, animation, drawing, and much more.

 

From painting, to Graffiti art, to creative cooking, the goal is to create while having tons of fun!

GROUPS: Ages 5-9 - Ages 10-12 and teens

VIVA LA VIDA IN ART 

Explore the world through art; it’s everywhere! Campers will spend this week exploring different types of art from painting to sculpting to drawing and more! Express yourself through an array of activities to guide you in a colourful journey of creative fun!

Session 2: July 3rd - 7th

GROUPS: Ages 5-9 - Ages 10-12 and teens

WARHOL, PICASSO, MONET, OH MY!

Paint, paint, paint... as we explore some of art’s greatest painters! From classical to surrealism to impressionism to abstract, explore the story of painting! Davinci, Kahlo, Matisse, Picasso, Dali, we paint! Inside and outside, we paint! Big and small, we paint! It's all about painting!

Session 3: July 10th - 14th

GROUPS: Ages 5-9 Ages 10-12 and teens

RHYTHM & HUES

Music and Art have always been intertwined! Let’s be inspired by the music of the past decades… from the 60s to the 2000s, we will explore a variety of art while listening to the music that inspired them. Pop, Folk, Hip Hop, and Rock & Roll, students will get to paint, tie dye, sculpt, and draw. It’s super cool!!!

Session 4: July 17th - 21st

GROUPS: Ages 5 - 9 Ages 10-12 

 

LOONY TOONY CARTOONY

Cartoons, mythology, puppets, drawings, and animation; how many ways are there to tell a story? We will explore the world of cartooning, drawing, manga, claymation, and more! What’s your story? Draw it, write it, tell it!

TEEN OPTION: AGES 13-16

GRAPHIC GRAFFITI

Graffiti as an art has been around since prehistoric cave drawings. In this camp, participants will create their own "tag”. They will also learn about famous graffiti artists, work with stencils and spray. In addition participants will explore urban art, public art, and murals.

Session 5: July 24th - 28th

GROUPS: Ages 6 - 9 Ages 10-12

WONDERFUL WOMEN IN ART

Women have always played an influential, yet underrepresented role in the art world. This week we will use the studio space as a way to explore some of the greatest works and contributions by women in the art world. Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Maude Lewis, Louise Bourgeois, and Yayoi Kusama are just some of the artists whose work we will be exploring.

Session 6: July 31st - August 4th 

GROUPS: Ages 6 - 9 Ages 10-12, Ages 13 - 16

 

AMAZING RACE: ART WORLD EXPLORED

Stories, cartoons, mythology, puppets, drawings, and songs; how many ways are there to tell a story? We will explore the world of storytelling through clay animation, cartooning, drawing, manga, and more! What’s your story?

Session 7: August 7th - 11th

GROUPS: Ages 5 - 9 Ages 10-12 and teens

SCULPTING UP A STORM!

Explore the world of three dimensional art by working with clay, plaster, papier maché, wire, and other material objects. This week will focus on some of the great sculptural works from the past. Get dirty and use your hands to make some great work that represents you!

Session 8: August 14th - 18th

GROUPS: Ages 5 - 9 Ages 10-12 and teens

DRAW, DRAFT, & DESIGN 

Draw, draw, draw! Explore the world of drawing and design. Line drawing, sketching, caricatures, and more! Learn how to draw in a variety of different styles as you keep a portfolio featuring your own series of dynamic drawings and doodles.

TEEN OPTION: AGES 13-16

DRAWING FOR TEENS

This camp will focus on the fundamentals of drawing: elements of line, composition, proportion, space and light, while using different drawing materials. Develop the eye of an artist!

Session 9: August 21st - 25th

GROUPS: Ages 6 - 9 Ages 10-12 and teens

RECYCLE, UPCYCLE, CREATE

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! This week campers will use recycled and unconventional materials such as metal, newspapers, wood, and plastic, to create beautiful works of art all taking inspiration from some great modern artists. Create collages, works in mixed media, sculpture and more. If you love art and care about the environment, this camp is for you!

If you are interested in half days or drop-in registration, give us a call or send us an email specifying the session and days you are interested in, as well as your name, phone number, email and your child's name and age. 

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 regulations, some of our policies have changed. We are currently offering full week registrations with limited numbers, to adhere to social distancing guidelines. We will keep a waiting list for half days and drop-ins, should space be available, however, we have to give priority to full-day campers in order to reduce the amount of transitioning in and out of the Gallery.
